Dime Store Toys Early Examples and Non-Licensed Mego Toys
I don't know why....I really don't, but I LOVE non-licensed Mego Corp toys. Maybe because it helps tell the rest of the story? Maybe because the same awesome people at Mego who worked on the more popular lines also worked on these? I dunno but I have a lot of these. Let's check them out!
Junior Sherriff Twin Holster Set Genuine Leather by Mego
This is one of my earliest Mego items, a Junior Sherriff Twin Holster Set. Notice the three bullets which means you will get an extra shot with either your left gun or your right gun....but not both. Hopefully there are no more than 3 bad guys and you don't miss!
Mego Corporation "Lightning Bug" Toy
This is a cool idea. Its a piece of glowing paper wrapped around a plastic handle. When you twirl it I guess it made a beautiful visual scene...or at least that's what you hoped when you plopped down your $.52 back in the day at TNT toys.
Very early Mego Periscope Toy 1950s
Mighty Mego Guerilla Gun
Mego Corporation "Teach A Toy"
I have never been able to figure out what this is and I still don't know. All I could guess is that its to help with juvenile motor skills for preschool kids. However, the pieces are clearly a choking hazard so I have no idea. If you know please tell me!
Mego Corporation's Dashee the Derby Hat Daschund
Early Mego Child's Purse
Mego Nosey the Dog
Mego Corp Pegboard with 2 Trays
Very cool pre-school item. I'm pretty sure that's Neal Kublan's children on the front there. Same kids that are featured in the Wee Woody's trade ad.
Mego Little Fingers Hours of Fun Box of Activities
Mego Corp 1st Edition Deluxe Magna Doodle
That's right! Before Fisher Price had this bad boy (which is still sold today) Mego invented it! If I'm not mistaken Neal Kublan is on the patent for this item. He's the one that told me about it so later on when one came up for sale (which isn't that often) I bought it in honor of him.
Mego Corp TAKE-A-PART Construction Toys
These see through toys are super cool and I can see how they would be popular with kids. These must have sold fairly well because there are a few variations packaging wise on these with different assortments.
Mego Corp Chrome Plated OLD FASHIONED CAR
Someone must have found a case of these or something because at one time there were a bunch on ebay. I'm glad I finally grabbed one because I don't see them as frequently any more. Very cool old tin car with chrome plate. Another example of the quality that Mego evolved into after many many years of making the cheap-O $.88 toys.
